Child and Adolescent Brain Development and the Relationship to Social and Emotional Learning
Teachers, parents, other school support staff and persons who interact with youth will be aware of adolescent development and its implications for social and emotional learning in today’s society.
The purpose of this module is to develop age appropriate strategies and best practices for teachers and other caring adults to empower students and positively impact social and emotional learning, behavior and growth.

This module supports current and future board members through proven governance strategies and resource along with the content of the 2013–2014 NC Governance Fundamentals training sessions. Each section provides governance exercises designed to analyze and strengthen the board's governance practices. (2.4 CEU)
Preparation for Foundation of Reading Licensure Exam
This module is designed to provide teachers with a solid foundation of knowledge and skills needed to assist in the preparation of taking the Foundations of Reading for North Carolina Exam and to deliver effective instruction in reading. The content in the module is derived directly from extensive research-based literature. This module is intended to help teachers coming in from out-of-state, prepare for the licensure exam. It can also be used by Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) instructors to guide them in the content that should be included in their courses to better prepare their students for the test. This module earns 1 CEU on completion.

An updated version of this module is now available for 1.0 CEU. This current module will be retired on November 20, 2015. Enrolled participants have until November 20, 2015 to either complete this module OR enroll in the updated version.

It can also be used by IHE instructors to guide the preparation of content to be included in their courses to prepare students for the test. This module earns 1 CEU on completion.

Understanding Student Behavior in the Classroom
This module is for middle and high school teachers and school staff. The module will help teachers and staff develop an enhanced awareness of behavioral health issues in the classroom which may foster academic achievement for all students, decrease dropout rates, and increase North Carolina's graduation rates. (0.5 CEU)
Understanding Young Student Behavior in the Classroom
This module is for preschool through grade 5 teachers. The module will serve as a tool to assist teachers in developing an enhanced awareness of behavioral health issues in young students. The module will extend that knowledge to foster long-term connectivity and academic achievement for all students, decrease the dropout rates; and ultimately, increase North Carolina's graduation rates. (0.5 CEU)
Understanding the Role of School Resource Officers in Schools
The single greatest benefit for our K-12 students is to create collaborations among our educators, school resource officers, school nurses, school social workers, school counselors and school psychologists. Early intervention contributes to prevention and is a key for our school safety and school climate endeavors. This module will help school personnel develop an awareness of the role and effective utilization of School Resource Officers in order to create a caring and safe educational environment that benefits learning and community. (0.5 CEU)
Understanding the School's Role in Suicide Prevention
Teachers, other school staff, and peers are often among the first to identify when a student is displaying warning signs that he or she may be contemplating suicide. The goal of this module is to provide teachers and school staff with an evidenced informed tool that enhances their knowledge for prevention, intervention, resources for assistance and recovery supports for the students, school staff and families. (0.5 CEU)
Preventing Substance Abuse and Underage Drinking Among K12 Students
This module will serve as a tool to assist educators to serve as leaders to prevent and intervene for our K-12 students with substances abuse and underage drinking issues. The module provides resources so that our educators can create collaborations among their colleagues, law enforcement, school nurses, school social workers, school counselors, school psychologists, school resource officers, students, parents and community partners. This professional development course is designed to instruct all scorers regardless of content area experience; however, the focus is on High School Math, Science, Social Studies, and English Language Arts courses. This online course is comprised of self-paced modules to train scorers on the process for evaluating and scoring student responses and allow scorers to view writing samples.
