Course DescriptionThrough this BOAT I introductory course, students will gain ample knowledge of the industry. Students will develop an understanding of the marine field through project-based learning and hands-on learning. Topics to be mastered include tools and safety, maritime history, navigation, marine vessels, weather and tides, rigging, engine and mechanical systems, and propulsion. Students will gain problem-solving and critical-thinking skills during their completion of BOAT I. This course will meet all requirements of the NCWRC boater's safety test (required for ALL persons operating a vessel under the age of 26) and is geared towards individuals interested in obtaining their captain's license.
