Work-based Learning (WBL) is an integral part of all Career and Technical Education courses in North Carolina to show curricular relevance to industry skills.
Public School Units (PSUs) are encouraged to strategically choose work-based learning strategies in alignment with unique needs, considering factors such as local employment demands, available program offerings, resources, and other pertinent considerations. Course Title	BOAT I: Building on a Tradition
Course Description	Through this BOAT I introductory course, students will gain ample knowledge of the industry. Students will develop an understanding of the marine field through project-based learning and hands-on learning. Topics to be mastered include tools and safety, maritime history, navigation, marine vessels, weather and tides, rigging, engine and mechanical systems, and propulsion. Students will gain problem-solving and critical-thinking skills during their completion of BOAT I. This course will meet all requirements of the NCWRC boater's safety test (required for ALL persons operating a vessel under the age of 26) and is geared towards individuals interested in obtaining their captain's license.
