With iOS 9.3.2 or later NCTest can automatically lock and configure iPad with AAC.  The following features are disabled while AAC is active:

  • Auto correct and spell checker
  • Predictive keyboard
  • Dictionary definition lookup
  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Sharing
  • Siri
  • Universal Clipboard (iOS 10.2 or later)
  • Dictation (iOS 10.3 or later)
  • Remote observation with Classroom (iOS 10.3.2 or later)
  • Screen recording (iOS 11 or later)
  • Speak selected text (iOS 11 or later)
  • Auto-capitalization, character preview and smart punctuation (iOS 11 or later)

In addition to the features above being turned off, the iPad clipboard is cleared and third party keyboards are temporarily disabled.

Once AAC is engaged, you will be unable to exit the NCTest app until a test coordinator logs out of NCTest, 8hrs passes, or the iPad is power cycled via hard reset (see notes below).  AAC requires no additional management or setup.

Starting an AAC Session

  1. Open the NCTest app
  2. Tap on the NCTest Login Button
  3. You will be prompted to "Confirm App Self-Lock".  Tap Yes to confirm.  If you tap No you will be brought back to the main screen.
  4. NCTest is now locked down and you can login and start a test

Ending an AAC Session

  1. Log out of NCTest and tap Exit.  NCTest will automatically disengage AAC.

Notes
  • Do not use Single app mode or Guided access with AAC.  NCTest will not work correctly with those features enabled.
  • If an iPad loses network connectivity, NCTest will become unresponsive.  When that happens you can exit your AAC session by holding down the sleep and home button for 5 seconds.  This will do a hard shutdown on the iPad and restart it.
  • AAC is only supported on iOS version 9.3.2 and up.  iPads running iOS versions prior to 9.3.2 will need to use Guided Access, Single App Mode w/ MDM, or upgrade to the latest version of iOS.
